WebMar 18, 2024 · The typical two way bookshelf speaker just doesn't have enough room to put the port in front. Putting the port in back makes design much easier. Sealed designs roll off a little sooner but continue to roll off instead of dropping completely off. Sealed tends to sound tighter while ported seems like a softer base to me.

Below the frequency where the box is tuned, there is much LESS pressure than in a sealed box--hence the need for a subsonic filter.
