Webb15 juni 2016 · The data link layer (layer 2) is ethernet which takes the physical charge service and implements a frame service of broadcasting frames on a LAN, and receiving frames addressed to the appropriate computer. Each of these frames has an ethernet header followed by the frame payload. The network layer (layer 3) is IP.

WebbAn Ethernet frame starts with a header, which contains the source and destination MAC addresses, among other data. The middle part of the frame is the actual data. The frame … WebbThe Ethernet data-link protocol defines the Ethernet frame: an Ethernet header at the front, the encapsulated data within the middle, and an Ethernet trailer at the end. Ethernet actually defines a couple of alternate formats for the header, with the frame format shown in Figure 2-14 being commonly used today.
WebbAccording to paragraph 6.3.2.3 of the Ethernet V2 Spec, the minimum ethernet frame is based on the Ethernet Slot Time, which is 512 bit lengths (64 Bytes) for 10M ethernet. Slot time governs both maximum cable length and minimum frame size. Webb13 apr. 2024 · You can see the above mentioned headers in the 3D diagram of the frame below: THE DATA LINK HEADER. Webb18 jan. 2016 · 1 By IEEE 802.3, an Ethernet frame has to carry a payload of at least 46 bytes. This is for collision detection-- collisions of smaller frames (may) go undetected. The Q is: what if the payload to be carried is shorter? what kind of padding is used to scale the frame up to the slot size-- 64 bytes? TIA. networking ethernet Share
